Episode Seventeen – Grace Stone Coates and Caroline Patterson
For this episode of Breakfast in Montana, Aaron and Russell talk about two very powerful collections of stories, Black Cherries, published in 1931 by Grace Stone Coates. One of the stories from this collection, “Wild Plums,” was included in a collection of the best 100 stories from the 20th Century, compiled by John Updike.

The second collection is The Ballet at the Moose Lodge, by Caroline Patterson. Caroline was just recently honored as the winner of the Moose Award by Black Lawrence Press, which will publish her novel, Stone Sister, in 2021. Ballet at the Moose Lodge is a fabulous collection of stories written over a twenty year period, and was published by Drummlummon Press.
